The Myths and Legends of Loch Smythe

There have been many myths spread around about Loch Smythe and its members. Some positive, some negative and some neutral. This page is to dispel the myths

Myth #1

Loch Smythe was named after its former Seneschal, Laird John Smythe.

The naming of the group is purely co-incidental. When we began discussing becoming our own group the issue of what would we would call ourselves came up. Our goal from the beginning was to have at our center the city of Smithville. We took our name from Smithville Lake, which is near the city of Smithville. "Loch" is Scots Gaelic for "Lake" and "Smythe" is just a variation of "Smith" and we just dropped the "ville". I suppose we could have been "Loch Smytheborough" but that was a bit much and that was never discussed. Doņa Isabella de Grijalba actually came up with the name and it has absolutely nothing to do with John Smythe.

Your humble web minister looked all over the internet to see if there was a Loch Smythe in Scotland and found there was none. At one time we considered the Gaelic word "Gow" instead of "Smythe". "Gow" is Gaelic for "Smith". The problem is that Scotland beat us to that name so we went with "Smythe". Many of us upon hearing this name thought it funny to name a group "locksmith" but Doņa Isabella informs me that she never even considered that.
