With the addition of these new people we found that we met all of the requirements for officers to become a shire. So we begin to put the wheels in motion to form our own group. We volunteered John Smythe as our new seneschal. We soon filled all of the positions that were required.

On September 29th, 2005 we held our first meeting. We began by meeting in the homes of our members on Thursday nights. We held our meetings on the weeks that the Barony of Forgotten Sea did not have their meetings. They meet on the first and third Thursday and we met on the second and fourth Thursdays.

Shortly after our first meeting Laird John Smythe and Lady Amelyn Pope met with Baron and Baroness Malachi von Uri and Dejaniera de la Mille Coeur of the Barony of Forgotten Sea to see if the barony would mind if giving us the land in the northern part of the Barony. The Baron and Baroness were very supportive of our group to which we are very grateful for their kindness and generosity.

At one of our earlier meetings we all pooled our money together and raised enough money to pay for a website. On October 14, 2005 www.lochsmythe.org was created. Three days later we had our first web page annoucing who we were, when we met and who our officers are and not much of anything else.

In January of 2006 it was announced to our group by our seneschal that we had been officially recognized as a contact group by the Kingdom of Calontir. As a contact group we are still considered a part of the Barony of Forgotten Sea, who "owns" this land. It was around this time that we begin meeting at the Smithville Pizza Hut instead of at members homes. At the January 26, 2006 meeting we changed our meeting nights from Thursday to Wednesday.

In April of 2006 Lady Annora de Braose announced that the Smithville Fire Station will let us use there conference room for our meetings. They currently let the Boy Scouts use their conference room on Wednesday nights. This means that we had to move our meeting times back to Thursday so that we would not conflict with the Boy Scouts.

The Smithville Fire Station has been like a dream come true. First off they are not charging us for using their building. Second it is a brand new building. And third the room it set up for multi-media presentations.

Loch Smythe first appeared to the Kingdom in the March issue of The Mews as a contact group. We are also listed as a contact group on the Kingdom web site.

On Wednesday, June 13, 2007, during the Lillies War, Garioch Sotherlaend was welcomed and recognized by the Barony of Forgotton Sea -- Their Excellencies Trevor and Svana -- as the new Seneschal and Contact Person for the Loch Smythe Contact Group.

Thursday, February 7, 2008. We met with Baron and Baroness Avraham and Jorunn of the Barony of Forgotten Sea, the Kingdom Seneschal Gottfreid, the Barony Senschal Baron Malachi all attended our first of the month business. Gottfreid discussed with us the possibility of becoming an Incipient Canton. We had a very large turn out at this meeting. All in attendance agreed that this is the direction we felt Loch Smythe should go.

Wednesday, March 19, 2008. It was announced, via an e-mail sent from Baron Avraham to the Barony's, Loch Smythe's and Aston Tor's Yahoo groups, that since the beginning of March we have been officially recognized as an Incipient Canton. In roughly a year we will become eligible to be a full fledged Canton. As a Canton we will operate, as we always have, under the direction and guidance of the Barony of Forgotten Sea.  Our contact person, Garioch Sotherlaend, now becomes the Seneschal.  All other officer's that have been working as unofficial officers are now official.
